Al Pacino was virtually unknown before taking the role as Michael Corleone, alongside Marlon Brando and Robert DeNiro, in Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 epic film, The Godfather.

His performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor; however, he lost to Joel Grey for his performance in Cabaret.

In 1973 Pacino starred in the Hollywood blockbuster Serpico and the underrated film Scarecrow, co-starring Gene Hackman. Pacino once again appeared in The Godfather Part II as Don Corleone. In 1975, Pacino played bank robber, Sonny Wortzik, in Dog Day Afternoon.

Al Pacino portrayed Cuban drug lord, Tony Montana, in the 1983 Brian De Palma film, Scarface. It earned him a Golden Globe nomination for his performance.

Pacino appeared in several films throughout the 1990's such as The Godfather Part 3, Glengarry Glen Ross, Carlito's Way, Heat, Donnie Brasco, and The Devil's Advocate.
